Overview

Cytotechnologists examine Pap tests and other cytology specimens microscopically to identify atypical or malignant cells and flag cases for pathologist review.

Screening and Triage

They perform primary screening, prepare slides and use ancillary techniques such as liquid based cytology and immunocytochemistry when indicated.

Quality and Reporting

Cytotechnologists follow QA protocols, participate in proficiency testing and document findings to support accurate diagnostic workflows and timely reporting.

Training and Certification

Specialists complete cytotechnology programs and certification and collaborate with pathologists and clinicians for diagnostic correlation and follow up.
