College Description of General Chemistry I
This course introduces foundational chemical principles with an expanded emphasis on atomic theory, chemical bonding, quantitative problem solving, and the behavior of matter. Students explore the structure of atoms and molecules, the nature of chemical reactions, and the mathematical relationships that govern chemical systems. Additionally, the course integrates conceptual understanding with laboratory experimentation to build strong scientific reasoning skills.
Course Objectives of General Chemistry I
Students will learn to apply atomic theory, perform stoichiometric calculations, analyze bonding models, and interpret thermochemical data. They will also develop laboratory skills, collect and analyze experimental data, and connect chemical principles to environmental, industrial, and biological applications.
Key Topics Covered During General Chemistry I
Atomic structure, periodic trends, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, stoichiometry, reaction types, thermochemistry, and properties of gases. These topics provide the foundation for understanding chemical behavior and quantitative relationships.
