Overview

Noncontrast head CT is the first line for acute neurologic symptoms to detect hemorrhage mass effect and acute fractures.

Acquisition Parameters

Use thin axial slices bone and brain windows with rapid single rotation acquisition to minimize motion and time to interpretation.

Clinical Uses

Indicated for suspected intracranial hemorrhage acute trauma and initial stroke assessment prior to thrombolysis decisions.

Reporting Focus

Assess for hemorrhage midline shift hydrocephalus and skull fractures and correlate with clinical findings for urgent management.
