Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)

Overview

CNMs provide prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care, family planning and routine gynecologic services emphasizing physiologic birth and patient centered care.

Clinical Practice

They manage low to moderate risk pregnancies, perform deliveries, provide lactation support and counsel on contraception and reproductive health.

Collaboration and Referral

CNMs coordinate with obstetricians and neonatologists for high risk cases and participate in perinatal quality and safety initiatives.

Education and Certification

CNMs complete graduate midwifery programs, national certification and maintain competencies in obstetric emergencies and newborn care.
