Overview
Gadopentetate dimeglumine is a linear gadolinium based contrast agent used historically for a wide range of MRI applications.
Properties
Extracellular distribution, moderate relaxivity, linear chelate structure associated with higher propensity for gadolinium release compared with macrocyclic agents.
Uses
Used for contrast enhanced MRI of brain, spine and body to detect and characterize lesions.
Safety
Associated with increased risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis in severe renal impairment; current practice favors macrocyclic agents when possible.
