Indocyanine Green

Overview

Indocyanine green is a water soluble dye that fluoresces in the near infrared spectrum and is used for real time perfusion and biliary imaging during surgery and endoscopy.

Properties

It binds to plasma proteins, is rapidly cleared by the liver into bile, and provides strong near infrared signal for imaging systems.

Uses

Used for assessment of tissue perfusion, sentinel node mapping, hepatic function assessment and intraoperative biliary visualization.

Safety

Allergic reactions are rare but possible; use caution in patients with iodine allergy and follow dosing and monitoring guidelines.
