Overview
Iodixanol is an isoosmolar, nonionic iodinated contrast agent designed to reduce osmotic load compared with low osmolar agents.
Properties
Isoosmolar to plasma at typical concentrations, radiopaque, chemically stable and available for intravascular use.
Uses
Commonly used for CT angiography, cardiac catheterization and when minimizing renal stress is a priority.
Safety
May lower risk of renal adverse events in select patients but does not eliminate risk; monitor renal function and consider alternatives for severe renal failure.
