Overview
Thyroid ultrasound assesses gland size echotexture vascularity and nodule features to stratify malignancy risk and guide biopsy.
Core Views
Transverse and longitudinal sweeps of each lobe and isthmus with measurement of nodules and assessment of echogenicity and calcifications.
Doppler and Elastography
Color Doppler for vascularity and optional shear wave elastography for stiffness assessment when available.
Reporting and Recommendations
Use standardized risk stratification lexicon and recommend fine needle aspiration based on size and sonographic risk features.
